It's My Story

Prevailing As A Christian Parent

As a parent, have you noticed that evil has pervaded the world and it seems like it is getting worse by the day? There always seems to be abhorrent news on social media about one thing or the other that the youth are dabbling with today โ€“ porn, disrespect, unwholesome challenges, drugs, violence, crime, aversion to the things of God โ€“ the list goes on and on.

Have you ever been worried about the worsening negative trends in the world today? Have you worried about the world our children will grow up in and probably wished that you could turn back the hands of time, so our children can grow up in the safer times that we grew up in?

If you have ever worried about your children and the world they must grow up in, I want to bring you some good news: God, who doesnโ€™t make mistakes, knows our children and knew that they will be born at such a time as this. I want to remind you, dear Prevailer, that God has equipped your children to prevail in these times.

The bible says that all creation is awaiting the manifestation of the sons of God (Rom 8:19). Despite the gross darkness, the world is waiting for your children to bring solutions to pressing issues. However, our children will not automatically manifest if they are not raised right.

In Malachi 2:15, God made it clear that one of the major assignments given to man on the platform of marriage is to raise Godly children. The primary responsibility of raising your children to be balanced and outstanding lies with parents, as can be seen in Gen 18:19. God said that he knows that Abraham will raise his descendants to keep the way of the Lord and do what is just and right. From this scripture, you will see that raising children right, lies primarily with parents. Every other system such as the school, church and even media are secondary structures that will support you in your parenting journey.

Please understand that your children will not automatically turn out right because you are a fervent Christian. If you look through scripture, you will see that there were a number of heavily anointed servants of God โ€“ prophets and priests like Aaron, Eli and Samuel who were used mightily by God, yet their children didnโ€™t turn out right (Lev 10:1-3, 1 Sam 2:12-13, 28-29; 8:1-3).
